7 SIMPLE TIPS for STAYING LEAN

- Curb calorie density –fill up on fewer calories with less dense foods. A medium apple is 80 calories and much more filling than a 100-calorie tablespoon of butter (not that you would eat butter straight, but you get the idea).
- Shrink your servings – if you would normally eat 3 cookies for dessert, eat one and save about 100-150 calories. Over one month you would save 3,000 to 4,500 calories!
- Limit some choices – meats and cheeses may deliver some health benefits but are very calorie dense and high in fat. Eat these foods in moderation. When ordering out ask for your burger, refried beans, pasta, etc. without cheese and save a lot of calories and fat.
- Think healthy, not just skinny – studies show that when we focus on health and on changing our behavior, we lose weight much more easily that if we focus strictly on the weight loss.
- Find a friend or a coach – having someone to be accountable to can increase your adherence to exercise by 2200%!
- Set realistic goals – when your goals are realistic and broken down into the short term, you are more likely to keep with your program and realize results.
- Curb liquid calories – try drinking only water during the day. Juices and sodas have almost no nutritional value (most juices are just sugar) and add hundreds of useless calories. Alcohol is another calorie concern. Try drinking a glass of water between each glass of wine and see if that helps you limit your intake.
